Inspiration Challenge #36: Wine cutting boards

Whew, I'm really late today! Sorry about that - I had some stuff that had to be done this morning but I didn't want to miss the challenge entirely.

This week's inspiration piece is these cutting boards from Coldwater Creek. I really loved the style and the colors. But I kinda went astray once I actually started making my card, LOL. That was partly because I also wanted to do today's sketch challenge, which was, well, a challenge!

After a lot of indecision I went with the French Quarter stamps from Inque Boutique. I liked the images that fit together to make a circle since that was a major element of the sketch. Once I decided to use those stamps, I was kind of limited on color because I've found that the Memento inks work best, and there aren't as many colors available. I ended up using rich cocoa and potter's clay, with very vanilla and Bazzill textured cardstock. The bottom panel uses the cocoa ink but stamped off once first. The sentiment comes from Sincere Salutations and uses the same cocoa ink.

For the background I chose a paper also from Inque Boutique (the Memories pack) - the swirls reminded me of the cutting board backgrounds. I layered the circles (cut by hand) onto scalloped circles, which I also made by hand. I used the Fiskars clouds scissors, adjusting as I went so that the scallops were placed correctly. To finish I added three copper brads from Making Memories.

I like this card - I was pretty unsure about this sketch, I confess! I think this could even work as a masculine card - at least if you have a hubby like mine who likes elegant things!

I hope you enjoy this challenge and come play along. The keyword for SCS this week is DSIC36. Don't forget to leave me a comment with a link so everyone can see your creation. Thanks for visiting and for your patience today! And, don't forget the blog candy giveaway ending tonight at 8 pm Eastern - time is running out!

Hi Lori! You did SUCH a nice job on this sketch! When I saw the sketch, I was also really unsure about it. I don't have the circle Nestabilities and the idea of cutting them freehand is..not such a good idea for me, I think. I will pass on the sketch challenge, but I do want to give your inspiration challenge a try! Hopefully I'll get that one done soon.

I will also figure out my order later today and get back to you on that!

Hello! Finally, I got this one done! This was a really fun challenge, Lori! Thanks for picking such a good one.

Here's the link to my card. I'm trying to figure out why the card looks blurry on SCS, but not in my original photo. So the link might need a little time to be approved.

Thanks, as always, for the fun challenge!
